   Upcoming Special Events

10:00 a.m., Sunday, July 17

Karen Wells Horsman is the Assistant Director of Development for International Ministries. She works on behalf of our ABC ministries and mission throughout the world. Originally from the Austin neighborhood in Chicago, she grew up at Austin Second Baptist Church. She met her husband Steve when they were both students at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary. In the past Karen has worked for the American Baptist Foundation while Steve was a pastor at four churches in Wisconsin and Indiana. Though now living in the Indianapolis area, she still considers the Chicago home.
Over 200 years ago, Baptists came together to support International Missions. The ministry continues today with over 120 Global Servants around the world. How many do you know about? Have you heard of the New Life Center in Northern Thailand? The AMOS Project in Nicaragua or our historic mission in Myanmar (Burma)? These are just a few of the many ministries that we as members of the American Baptist family undertake in the name of Jesus Christ. Join us for our Mission Sunday at 10:00 a.m. July 17 and discover how First Baptist is a valued member of the International Ministries team and the exciting future that is before us all.
New Stephen inister CommissioningSunday, September 13, 10:00 a.m.Rachael Godinez Wallace is being commissioned as our new Stephen Minister. She has received 50 hours of specialized training in Christian caregiving and joins a team of ten active Stephen Ministers serving our congregation and community. Please pray for Rachael—ask God to bless her ministry and work through her to bring hope and healing to those whom she serves. Pray also for the ongoing ministry of our current Stephen Ministers

5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 3

“Cheap Thrills” outings are returning! The idea is to offer periodic fun activities that cost $5 - $10. The first will be on Sunday July 3 in Scoville Park. We will stake out a shady spot at 4:30 for the 5:00 concert of a well-known bluegrass group. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and snacks to share as we celebrate Independence Day weekend.

Upcoming Cheap Thrills plans include an outing to Brookfield Zoo and catching a minor league baseball game with the Kane County Cougars. Shuttle bus transportation for both events will be provided. In the fall we plan to offer “Check Please!” outings to favorite restaurants and to purchase group tickets to the theatre.
